National Service Scheme (NSS)
We in our college running NSS unit since 2017 started with 50 volunteers. Now unit has grown and have 100 volunteers. The main aim of NSS Activities is to inculcate social welfare in students, and to provide service to society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian Government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhi’s Centenary year, 1969. Aimed at developing student’s personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community linkage.
Annual NSS Regular Activities
In doing Regular activities, volunteers learn several things like self-discipline, understand the need of tree plantation, cleanliness, personal hygiene, and learn to adjust and do sacrifices. NSS Volunteers also provides help in natural and man-made disasters by providing food, clothing and first aid to the disaster victims. All in all NSS builds the social awareness in the students.
Several activities are conducted under the NSS, like Tree Plantation, Cleanliness Drives, Swacha Bharat Abhiyan, Plastic Mukta Abhiyan, Road Safety, Women Empowerment, Blood Donation Camp etc. Rallies and skits on various social issues are also part of regular activities and are conducted under NSS Department.
Annual NSS Special Winter Camps
The Annual camp is known as Special Winter Camps. Camps are held annually mostly in the month of December, funded by the government of India, and are usually located in rural areas. College has to adopt village for 3 years and have to conduct camp for the consistent years. Volunteers learn from people in villages how to lead a good life despite a scarcity of resources. Volunteers may be involved in activities such as:
- Cleaning drive
- A forestation / Tree Plantation
- Stage shows or a procession creating awareness of such issues as social problems, education and cleanliness
- Awareness Rallies
- Inviting doctors for health camps
- Interaction with local people
There are some predefined or pre-assigned tasks list provided by NSS department; it is left up to the volunteers to provide service in any way that is feasible. Camp typically lasts for 07 days.
Our college has conducted 3 camps till date, First camp in Kasarsai village, second camp in Pimpoli Village and Third in Ghotawade Village, where we have conducted several activities like Tree Plantation, Literacy Survey, Water Conservation Rallies and Cleanliness Drives. Further, we also organized the awareness lectures for the students of school, college and villagers.
